New York State Civil Service Assistant Manager, Office of the Actuary in Albany, New York

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, or a related field; and five years of pension actuarial experience; and professional designation of Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) or Enrolled Actuary (EA). ## Duties Description Job duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Supervise and/or participate in the performance of the annual actuarial valuation of the System’s assets and liabilities, leading to the development of the employer contribution rate.

  • Supervise and/or participate in the performance of the annual actuarial gain/loss.

  • Supervise and/or participate in the preparation of the information, disclosures, charts and graphs for the CAFR (Comprehensive Annual Financial Report).

  • Supervise and/or participate in the preparation of the annual filing with the Department of Financial Services.

  • Supervise and/or participate in the development of actuarial assumptions.

  • Review GASB (Governmental Accounting Standards Board) statements and develop procedures and programming necessary for compliance.

  • Interface with System auditors and provide information as needed for the System’s financial statements.

  • Supervise and/or participate in the computation of annuity values and option factors in accordance with Statute, including the computation of option factors for alternative options and domestic relations orders.

  • Review the Internal Revenue Code and ensure the System remains in compliance with all relevant federal regulations, including IRC 415 and 401(a)(9).

  • Prepare correspondence regarding actuarial, cost, or statistical matters.

  • Meet with other departments to discuss proposed legislation.

  • Work with other departments to implement new legislation.

  • Ensure that the data processing systems, especially the valuation software and the data, are properly serving in accomplishing department assignments.

  • Work on special projects that arise.
